Newly Established Georgia Team Handball Club Won Silver At The USA Team Handball Championships in Salt Lake City, UT

Atlanta, GA - May 24, 2010 -

One of the most popular international sports is very well represented in Atlanta, Georgia.  Olympic Team Handball was introduced as an Olympic sport for men at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, but dropped after that, only to be resumed at the 1972 Summer Olympics, again on German territory.  The 1996 Olympic games brought team handball to Atlanta, several club teams were founded and initially flourished.  However, the lack of funding limited the growth potential of the sport on American soil and Atlanta was left without an active club team in 2010. 

The Georgia Handball Club was founded late in 2010 as a new team handball club accepted and supported by the USA Team Handball Association.  The establishment of the club was possible by the dedication to the sport of Damir Hecimovic (Coach) who played professionally in Bosnia. With the help of the USA Team Handball Association Damir has recruited players that are new to the sport or have played the sport at various levels in other countries.  The current make up of the Georgia Handball Club reflects the international popularity of the sport.  Players on the roster originate from countries including Germany, France, Poland, Slovakia, Serbia, Bosnia & the United States.  "Atlanta is an international city, our club proves this.  It wouldn't be possible to start a new team handball club without the international community" explained Damir. 


The club practices at a church gym in Snellville on a court about half the official size and with only one goal that was built by team member Dusko Ladisic.  One of the team members Stefan Bader lives in Greenville, SC and drives around 2 hours each way to be able to play the sport he missed playing since moving from Germany to the United States. This dedication to the sport allowed the team to travel to Salt Lake City and compete in the USA Team Handball Championship Open tournament.  The team didn't have a lot of opportunity to get game fit. Currently there isn't an active Team Handball league in the South Eastern United States.  However, all these obstacles just made the group of players more determined.  With only one substitution player on the bench the team travelled to Salt Lake City.  They beat Seattle, New York, Tuscan Raiders, Los Angeles and competed closely with the 10 time champions New York Athletic Club in the final.  The lack of bench depth with only one bench player caught up with the bruised team after 5 hard hitting games.  After initial disappointment the team reflected back and was very proud of the accomplishment.   "Silver shines as gold to us; we weren't even sure if we would have enough players to register for the tournament, so winning a silver is an enormous achievement" reflected Damir Hecimovic.

Anna Alford has been chosen to lead the Atlanta Polish Chamber of Commerce (PACC Atlanta) as the President of the organization.  Ms. Alford, a native of Poland, has been recently responsible for assisting small and medium size Georgia companies in exporting their products and services while working as the project/export analyst for the International Trade Division at the Georgia Department of Economic Development.  She received her Bachelor's in Political Science from the Georgia State University; currently, she is pursuing a graduate degree in planning and economic development at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies in Atlanta.

ATLANTA, March 7, 2011 - PwC and the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG), the state's leading association dedicated to the promotion and economic advancement of Georgia's technology industry, today announced that Tripp Rackley will be inducted into the Technology Hall of Fame of Georgia at the 2011 Georgia Technology Summit on March 23, 2011 at Cobb Galleria Centre, Atlanta.

Mr. Rackley is an accomplished and distinguished entrepreneur, having founded several Atlanta-based technology companies over the last 16 years. His ventures have created a combined $1 billion in shareholder value and more than 500 jobs in Georgia.

According to Maureen Morrison, lead partner for PwC's Technology Practice, "Tripp's career achievements, along with his significant contributions to the community, make him a clear choice for this year's inductee into the Technology Hall of Fame of Georgia. His commitment to innovation and the advancement of technology in Georgia exemplify the spirit in which the Hall of Fame was created."

The Technology Hall of Fame of Georgia was established in 1993 to recognize the achievements of outstanding members of Georgia's technology community. Mr. Rackley's career as an entrepreneur began in 1995 when he founded and served as chairman and CEO of nFront, Inc., an award-winning Internet banking technology firm. Mr. Rackley led nFront to a successful initial public offering in 1999 and subsequent sale to Digital Insight (now part of Intuit) in 2000. Upon leaving Digital Insight, Mr. Rackley became entrepreneur-in-residence at Noro-Moseley Partners, a venture capital firm focused on technology and healthcare investments. Most recently, Mr. Rackley founded and served as Chairman and CEO of Firethorn, a leading provider of mobile commerce. Under Mr. Rackley's leadership, Firethorn became a prime mover in introducing banks, wireless carriers, merchants and consumers to the concept of mobile commerce. He oversaw Firethorn's vision of building and growing the premier mobile banking payments ecosystem until its acquisition by Qualcomm in 2007.

Mr. Rackley earned an engineering degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1992 and continues to be active there today, serving on the Board of Trustees for the Alexander-Tharpe Fund and the Advisory Board for the Georgia Tech School of Industrial and Systems Engineering. In 2000, Mr. Rackley was inducted into Georgia Tech's Council of Outstanding Young Engineering Alumni.

Mr. Rackley currently serves on several Georgia based board of directors including: Cox Enterprises, Georgia Technology Authority, BroadSource, ITC Holdings Venture Fund and Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. He also served as the 2003 Chairman of the Technology Association of Georgia.
